Update on the New Plan B Generic

Hey my peeps,

Remember my article on the new generic for Plan B?

Well, it has finally reached the pharmacy shelves!

I had referred to the new medication as levonorgestrel – at the time I couldn’t figure out what the company would be naming it.  Come to find out the manufacturer, Watson Pharmaceuticals has dubbed it Next Choice.

As I mentioned in my original article (click the link above to read it!), Next Choice is FDA approved for girls ages 17 and younger only – seems weird, I know, but that’s what the ruling is!

Have no fear, it is perfectly fine for women 18 and older to take the new generic, it would just be considered an off-label use.

Also, don’t forget that as of right now, Next Choice is available only by prescription.  Hopefully it won’t be long before Next Choice goes OTC – it will be a cheaper yet equally effective option for emergency contraceptive compared to the current OTC Plan B (averages about $50 right now).

That’s it – short and sweet!
