Caffeine Content in Various Beverages and Foods

Good morning from Maine!  Made the post-holiday trip up to visit with family and friends, and not surprisingly, my luggage didn’t quite arrive the same time I did.  There appears to be some force field around the state, keeping my luggage from entering in a timely manner.

My goods can get to Singapore and Cambodia without a hitch, but when it comes to Maine, there’s no telling when I’ll get them!  It’s a chronic issue.  Time and time again I’ve made it here sans luggage.

Anyhow, all this luggage fiasco made me super sleepy, so I decided to figure out which caffeine source would be best for me.  I set out to compare the caffeine content of several products that have a strong presence in my life!

I chose Dunkin’ Donuts because it was my lifeline during pharmacy school, and Starbucks because it’s my lifeline now.   Tea because it’s my mom’s drink of choice, and iced tea just because.   My co-workers drink Mountain Dew like it’s going out of style. Red Bull made the list because it used to be Nova’s savior (or is it still?).  I added Monster energy drink because it’s great with vodka and on special at the local bar every Thursday night.  5 hour energy was included because it’s a popular purchase during the overnight hours, along with NoDoz and Excedrin.  Starbucks Coffee ice cream is included because I heart ice cream, and Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar because who doesn’t want chocolate?!

Here ya go:

Source                                                 Caffeine content (mg)

Dunkin’ Donuts 16oz                        143 – 206mg

Starbucks espresso 1 oz                    58 – 75mg

Starbucks Grande Coffee                330mg

Black Tea 8 oz                                   40 – 120mg

Black Tea, decaf 8oz                         2 – 10mg

Stash Premium Green Tea, 6oz       26mg

Lipton Lemon Iced Tea, 12oz          7mg

Nestea Iced Tea, 12oz                       26oz

Mountain dew reg or diet, 12oz       54mg

Red bull, 8.3oz                                   76mg

Monster energy drink,                      160mg

5 Hour Energy, 2oz                           138mg

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar         9mg

Starbucks Coffee ice cream, 8oz      50-60mg

Excedrin, Extra Strength, 2 tabs     130mg

NoDoz, Maximum Strength, 1 tab   200mg

All these sources of caffeine that I can take advantage of, yet I still fall for the coffee (for various reasons that I’ve probably already mentioned in previous posts)!
